The college experience is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. My first college experience helped me develop into the young women I am today. Joining a college or university is a very important decision that will impact you for the rest of your life. I decided to have my college experience at Johnson C. Smith University. I've been enrolled in the university since my freshman year and the experience has been good, so far.
Our university has come a long way since my freshman year. We recently was appointed a new president Dr. Carter and he has transformed our institution like a transformer. I believe that a student receives the full effect of campus living during their freshman and sophomore years. It is no secret that our university needs better campus housing, so maybe if this was provided more students would join the university and fewer students would have to commute.
Some of my past campus living experiences occurred in Duke hall, which is currently under renovation. My experience with campus living was unforgettable. Both my freshman and sophomore year, I lived in Duke Hall and I hated it, because we had huge roaches and carpet that smelled of old mold. My sophomore year it got a little better, because I had my own room, so I was able to keep it clean and neat like I wanted to. Later, during my sophomore semester I found out that students could put in maintenance requests to have their carpet cleaned and their room sprayed down with bug spray, so every week I was putting in an order...lol!
Our university has recently added the Bull Pit and our newly renovated café. Dr. Carter has put life back into JCSU with his renovations and various upgrades. The campus experience is so important that it could cause enrolled students to transfer and scare away prospective students. However our university is currently working on providing better campus housing for both current and prospective students in order to establish a better campus experience.
