Johnson C. Smith University President Dr. Ronald Carter has demonstrated his continued commitment to operational excellence by reappointing two employees to serve in his office as Executive Assistant to the President for Administration and Senior Administrative Assistant. The positions became effective earlier this month.
Cathy Hurd is the new Executive Assistant to the President for Administration. Her primary responsibility will be to organize and focus the President's time and energy to maximize his effectiveness by maintaining his calendar, coordinating projects, and serving as a resource with regard to administrative matters. Hurd joined JCSU in January as the Assistant Dean of University Records, Admissions and Financial Aid. In July she was appointed Interim Dean of University Records, Admissions and Financial Aid & Registrar.
She obtained her undergraduate degree in Business Management from Coker College. She also earned a Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration from Capella University. Hurd is pursuing a Post Master's Certificate in enrollment management as well as her Ph. D degree in Higher Education Administration from Capella University. Hurd is a native of Smithfield, Va.
Idrise Strange is the new Senior Administrative Assistant in the President's Office, serving as the President's personal assistant. Strange started working in 2004 for the University as a Patrol Officer in the JCSU Campus Police Department and was later promoted to Sergeant. He obtained his associates degree in criminology from Central Piedmont Community College. He also is expected to earn his bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in December. Strange is a native of Hamlet, N.C and is the son of Carolyn Everette.
