Johnson C. Smith University is pleased to announce George Harris as the incoming Dean for University Records, Admissions and Financial Aid. The Dean for University Records, Admissions and Financial Aid serves as the chief records officer (Registrar) and provides oversight and administrative leadership for several of the University's key enrollment management units (Admissions, Financial Aid, and Registrar offices). The Dean is responsible for engaging visionary, entrepreneurial, and strategic skills and abilities to foster an innovative, results-oriented recruitment and enrollment program for the University. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success.
Harris has 22 years of managerial experience and has served 15 of those years in Higher Education Administration. Most recently, he has served as Dean of Academic Advising and Registrar at Bennett College for Women. His prior work experience also includes serving as the Associate Director for Student Academic Services at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro; College Registrar & Director of Academic Data at Bennett College for Women, Data Systems Coordinator in Registrar's Office at North Carolina A&T State University, and Data Processing Client Support Manager at Central Service Corporation.
Dean Harris also has served our country as a member of the United States Marines Corps Reserves. He has broad-based experience in working with computer data systems including extensive experience with Jenzabar. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Shaw University and a Master of Divinity from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. His colleagues, including Dr. Johnnetta Cole, former president of Bennett College for Women, describe Dean Harris as "personable," "collegial," "efficient," "prepared," and "overwhelmingly warmly received by students and colleagues." He is married and has two daughters.
When asked for a comment, he responded "I am so happy to be a part of the JCSU team and look forward to meeting the students, staff and my new colleagues. My commitment to HBCU's is very much a part of my love for higher education." He will join the Enrollment Services and Student Success team shortly after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
