Dr. Zenobia Edwards is the Dean of the Metropolitan College. Her responsibilities include developing the framework of the College by designing class schedules and delivery methods which accommodate working students.
According to Edwards," The Metropolitan College presents an exciting opportunity for transformational growth both for Johnson C. Smith University and its surrounding communities. I look forward to interfacing with the community at large as we design and offer relevant degree, certification and special interest programs that will enhance the lives of our adult learners."
From science teacher to alternative school principal, and business owner, Edwards' 12 years of education administration experience has helped propel her as one of the leading authorities on school leadership and program development; especially as it relates to non-traditional students. Her expertise was illuminated while she served as a School Partnership Manager with the nationally renowned college access program, College Summit. College Summit is an award-winning non-profit organization and is credited with helping nearly 35,000 low-income high school seniors navigate the college application process. In 2008, the organization was honored as the U.S. Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.
Edwards received her Ed.D in Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Participation in this nationally recognized graduate program provided access to the top professionals in the field of education. It also afforded her the opportunity to experience non-traditional methodologies of learning: cohort, weekend, on-line and residential - while conducting applied research. She received her Master of Science in Biological Science and Education Specialist in Administration degrees from Converse College and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science from Wofford College.
In addition to being an educational consultant and a contributing author of several publications about at-risk students, Edwards is a gifted musician and song writer. She also co-founded I Am B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L., Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to coaching girls and women of all ages in discovering and using their strengths and abilities to overcome obstacles and achieve life success.
