Officer Angel Bennett Makes History with JCSU Campus Police
Many dedicated and courageous individuals have taken oaths to become a vital part of the law enforcement field. However, for the first time in Johnson C. Smith's history, a woman, Officer Angel Bennet, proudly can wear the badge of a sworn police officer.
Officer Bennett has had an active career in law enforcement. She completed her Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) in 1999 from Stanly Community College, Albermarle, NC. She furthered her education by earning an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from South Piedmont Community College, Monroe, NC, in May 2008.
Prior to joining the JCSU Family in October 2008, she served with the Township Police Departments of Scotland Neck, Enfield, and Pinetops, NC. In addition, Bennett volunteered for three years with the Marshville Police Department as a reserve officer. She also was a reserve officer with the Anson County Sheriff's Department.
Bennett has completed various certification courses in radar operation, bike patrol, taser and baton usage, and sexual assault . She also holds a certification from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
According to Officer Bennett, "Through faith, hard work, and determination, I was very blessed to achieve such an important distinction. I am very proud to be a part of JCSU's campus police as we continue to ensure the safety our students, faculty and staff, and visitors."
The Wadesboro, NC, native is active in several local community organizations that target youth and women issues. She was sworn in on June 2, 2009, with the Campus Police and is a welcome addition to the University. Please congratulate Officer Bennett on this significant accomplishment.
