Chatman also wins No. 1 singles title and Tournament MVP
Petersburg, VA - Johnson C. Smith freshman Cameron Chatman was named the 2009 CIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year by the conference office during the Spring Championships Program held on the campus of Virginia State University. Chatman, a native of High Point, NC, finished the regular season undefeated in conference (13-0), 20-3 overall, and 9-1 in her last 10 matches.
Chatman plays at the number one position in the singles and doubles. Her conference record in the doubles flights is also worth celebrating at 11-1. She and her doubles partner (junior Jae Hargett) have posted a 16-5 overall record this season and finished second in CIAA Tennis Championship Tournament.
Chatman is only the second freshman to win CIAA Player of the Year; the first was Ines Nieves (FSU) who Chatman beat for the number one singles title. The business administration major also captured the 2009 Tournament MVP during the CIAA Tennis Championships.
