POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position:                      TENURE-TRACK PHYSICS FACULTY

Salary and Rank:         COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE

Division:                      COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS (STEM)

Department:                NATURAL SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS

Opening Date:             APRIL 7, 2010

Closing Date:              OPEN UNTIL FILLED

 

This nine month (August-May), tenure track appointment begins in January 2011 (Half year appointment in the first year).

 

Responsibilities:          The faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses including general physics, mechanics, electrodynamics and non-major science courses, supervising undergraduate research, and mentoring students. Faculty members are also expected to develop a research program and obtain external funding through grant writing. Other responsibilities include advising majors and senior projects, serving on University and departmental committees and performing community service. In addition, faculty members perform other duties as required in support of organizational goals.

 

Qualifications:                 An earned doctorate in physics with the ability to teach with technology, familiarity with instructional methods promoting student engagement and evidence of scholarly research and outstanding teaching ability are required.  Qualifications to teach college chemistry are desirable as well, but not essential.  Research projects and curriculum development related to cyber security, forensic science, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or energy technology will align with the vision of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at JCSU.
