Position: CONTRACT PROGRAMMER

Note: This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position.
Responsibilities: In collaboration with and support of a team of scientists working in the area of operations research on a project dedicated to the design and operations of relief distribution networks; implements and tunes new algorithms and optimization tools developed by the team for the design and daily operations of Relief Distribution Networks; generates data (scenarios) needed to test developed algorithms/solutions; evaluates/tests emergency scenarios using discrete event simulation modeling applications; prepare reports to analyze experimental results.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Management Science, or related field is required; a master's degree is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable writing programs to test research ideas; willing to learn how to use new software as needed.; possess an understanding of basic data structures (e.g., trees and graphs) and basic algorithm design methods (e.g., greedy algorithms, divide & conquer, etc...); proven understanding of object-oriented analysis, design and programming; as well as proven proficiency in programming languages such as Visual Basic and C++. Experience in discrete event simulation modeling applications. Experience using IBM/ILOG CPLEX. Hands-on experience in developing decision support tools or applying operations research techniques is considered a plus. Education and experience in the application of traditional linear programming optimization techniques and meta-heuristics are desired. Strong interpersonal skills including but not limited to the ability to work independently and in a group, and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with others are also essential.
